Obesity is associated with larger arterial diameters in Caucasian and African-American young adults.

چکیده
R isk factors for larger arterial diameters and enhanced wall thickening have been insufficiently assessed in young adults, an age-group where preventive measures have the greatest impact. Larger vessel diameter and wall thickening may represent underlying vascular remodeling, a dynamic process by which the vascular system attempts to compensate for vascular damage (1). The purpose of the current study was to examine the association between obesity and arterial diameter and wall thickness in healthy Caucasian and African-American young adults. Associations were examined in both the muscular peripheral arteries and the more elastic central arteries.

Low parental support in late adolescence predicts obesity in young adulthood; Gender differences in a 12-year cohort of African Americans
BACKGROUND Most studies that have investigated the link between parenting behaviors and risk of obesity among offsprings have mostly used a cross-sectional design, enrolled Caucasian samples, focused on childhood obesity, and covered aspects of parenting behaviors that directly influence energy balance and food intake of the children. Thus, more longitudinal research is needed on how more gener...

The current study investigated factors related to specific phobia domains and differences in patterns among African American and Caucasian American adults. Subjects were 100 African Americans and 121 Caucasian Americans who completed the Fear Survey Schedule--Second Edition (FSS-II). Fears related to specific phobia domains were first examined, with frequencies differing between African America...

Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 16 patients were recruited using convenience sampling f...
متن کاملMeasures of obesity are associated with vascular stiffness in young and older adults.
Obesity has reached epidemic levels and carries a risk for cardiovascular disease. Obesity's effects on the vascular systems of young adults and African Americans have not been well characterized. The aim of this study was to assess the association between measures of obesity and aortic stiffness in 186 young adults (20 to 40 years, 50% African American) and 177 older adults (41 to 70 years, 33...
متن کاملTotal, resting, and activity-related energy expenditures are similar in Caucasian and African-American children.
There is some evidence to suggest that ethnic differences in energy expenditure in adults may modulate different propensities for obesity. However, there is lack of data for the components of energy expenditure in young children of different ethnic backgrounds. In this study, we examined total energy expenditure (TEE), resting energy expenditure (REE), and physical activity-related energy expen...
